About the Author
Dr. Janice Vickerstaff Joneja is a research scientist in medical microbiology and immunology, a registered dietitian in Canada, and a member of the American Dietetic Association. She is an adjunct professsor in the School of Agricultural Sciences at the University of British Columbia and an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham. She was the founder and head of the Allergy Nutrition Research Program in Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Center. Dr. Joneja is the author of various books in the field, including Understanding Allergy Sensitivity and Immunity: A Comprehensive Guide and Dealing with Food Allergies.

[Signature]Reviewed by John AshberySome poets have difficulty putting pen to paper. Kenneth Koch, on the contrary, could simply not stop producing poetry. Writing and living were all but synonymous for him. The results are brought together in his almost 800-page Collected Poems, which doesn't even include long poems like the Byronic epic about a Japanese baseball player, "Ko, or a Season on Earth." (Koch's Collected Longer Poems are scheduled to come out next fall.)Koch and I became friends at Harvard in the late 1940s. We renewed our friendship when I moved to New York in 1949; Frank O'Hara arrived there two years later, and we all met up with James Schuyler and Barbara Guest shortly afterward. Caught up in the effervescent art world of that time, along with our painter friends Jane Freilicher, Nell Blaine and Larry Rivers, to name but a few, we began to be looked at as a school—the New York School, of which Kenneth, by then a professor of poetry at Columbia, was headmaster and ringmaster. Teaching poetry was a close second to writing it as his occupation of choice; in time he would collaborate on books like Rose, Where Did You Get That Red? which has become a standard text for teaching poetry in secondary schools. His missionary zeal also led him to write his ars poetica, a poem called "Fresh Air," about a Zorro-like alter ego called the Strangler whose task it is to suppress poetic dullness, violently if necessary: "Oh GOODBYE, castrati of poetry! farewell, stale pale skunky pentameters (the only honest English meter, gloop, gloop!)," and replace it with, well, fresh air. Trashing lines like "This Connecticut landscape would have pleased Vermeer," the Strangler summons the spirits of Mallarmé, Shelley, Byron, Whitman, Pasternak and Mayakovsky to help him cleanse the Augean stables of poetry.But Koch loved poetry of all shapes and sizes, even "skunky pentameters." One of the many delightful surprises in this rich collection is "The Seasons," an homage to the epic poem of that title by the bland 18th-century poet James Thomson. Koch's rollickingly pentametric version begins: "Now pizza units open up, and froth/ Streams forth on beers in many a frolic bar/ New-opened-up by April." His poetic prodigality began, as Koch explains in "Days and Nights," when "It came to me that all this time/ There had been no real poetry and that it needed to be invented." The products of a lifetime of continual inventing are beautifully on display in this awe-inspiring banquet of a book. John Ashbery's most recent collection, Where Shall I Wander, has been nominated for a National Book Award.

About the Author
Kenneth Koch published many volumes of poetry, most recently A Possible World and New Addresses. His short plays, many of them produced off- and off-off-Broadway, are collected in The Gold Standard: A Book of Plays and One Thousand Avant-Garde Plays. He also wrote several books about poetry, including Wishes, Lies, and Dreams; Rose, Where Did You Get That Red?; and Making Your Own Days: The Pleasures of Reading and Writing Poetry. His fiction is brought together in Collected Fiction. He was the winner of the Bollingen Prize (1995) and the Bobbitt Library of Congress Poetry Prize (1996), a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize (1995) and the National Book Award (2000), and winner of the first annual Phi Beta Kappa Poetry Award (2001). Kenneth Koch lived with his wife, Karen, in New York City and taught at Columbia University. He died in 2002.

Ever since I saw my first superchunky, gorgeous colored resin bangle, available for sale at an online store back in the early 2000's, I have been intrigued by the mystique of always different resin jewelry. Yes I kick myself to this day that I never bought that bangle!Now I spot brilliant fabulous clear resin jewlery, with pretty silver embellishments, and inlaid semiprecious stones, for sale online. I see resin as well on etsy with yummy looking real candy pieces or sprinkles and glitter floating cheerily in the molded colorful bangles or pendants.Well, I have finally broken down and bought my own how to book, from the best teacher around, and I am thrilled! Now that I own this award winning book, The Art of Resin Jewelry, by Sherri Haab, I can stop looking and start doing! Having already "devoured" this great book, I plan to get to work (or to play!) as soon as possible! I am hoping to stretch my imagination to the fullest, and to see what I can do as well, with resin as my launching pad!Sherri Haab is the perfect guide for a neophyte like me! I need HER clear writing style. I need the fun of seeing the variety of her projects, such as her high art "Pod Bead" bracelet, shown in two colors, and her ultra hip Techno Polymer Clay Bezels (which obviously use more than just resin as the medium you work with). That second project I just mention comes from a whole section in the book she offers which is called "Combining Resin With Polymer Clay". Everthing is so fascinating!The author is straightforward in her writing style and her book is great, in the manner in which she assists the reader to take the intial steps toward learning how to create coated resin, casted, molded or combined medium resin jewelry.Not only did she produce this super cool book, she has a website where you can pick up the things you will need to create you own jewelry (molds, resin, colors, powders, bracelet blanks, ring blanks and more) without going through the sometimes confusing process of wandering around in a local craft store or even two, looking here and there and checking and rechecking your list of required resin needs you have to obtain to get started. This book and her site will get you started. Who knows were you will end up!I love this book! I am please with the saftey precautions she is careful to explain, I love the projects, and I feel that this is a terrific all around crafting book!

Well written and well researched. I especially liked the fact that the suppliers of materials needed for creating the projects in the book, were listed in the last part of the book. Sherri's instructions were easy to follow and the photos of each step were extremely helpful. It good that both advanced as well as beginners are able to use this book and come up with excellent results.Many of the different techniques possible for using resin were explained which gives the reader the desire to jump in and start to make some lovely creations.

This book takes the mystery out of working with resin. It explains mold-making in good detail and provides useful info for choosing the right raw materials. Not every artist can also teach, but Ms. Haab is skilled at both. The book is well laid out, not repetitive, and provides sample projects along with a list of necessary materials. Many of the projects are not my style preference, but written descriptions and pictures are clear and can be used for inspiration. Published in 2006, it is recent enough that the raw materials are still relevant and available.

I love this book. Just perfect for me.

This is a great beginner book for those interested in exploring Resin. Clear, concise instruction, good photos.

If you're new to Resin and looking for ideas this book is for you. I was getting it thinking I'd learn some new tricks but it was all pretty basic for me. So yes, new to resin, do get it. It's really good. But if you've been working with it for a while, I'd pass this one by.

Book clearly shows current products and provides warnings about some of the more toxic products one can use. Several articles on making your own molds and has pictures to clarify text. Being new to resin I found it a very useful first book. While I will use it for jewelry I will also use it formaking parts for model railroad parts. Resin is low cost enough to experiment. Will use it for faux amber, love the stuff, but real amber is way too expensive and color variations are hard to find.
