The epic verse of "Blind Harry" (or "Henry the Minstrel") is the main source on the life of Sir William Wallace. It was written around 1477 and based on the now lost Latin book of John Blair, commisioned by 'the fetching bishop' William Sinclair, Bishop of Dunkeld, to send to the Pope. Blind Harry gathered stories and traditions of Wallace from all over Scotland and sang or recited his verse. He was well recieved at the Renaissance court of King James IV. Blind Harry's "Acts and Deidis of the Illustre and Vallyeant Campioun Schir William Wallace" was one of the first Scottish books printed in Scotland. Hamilton's edition, "wherein the old obsolete words are rendered more intelligible", first published in 1722, had a great influence on Burns (whom it inspired to visit many of the sites mentioned and to write a number of poems including "Scots Wha Hae") and many others, including Wordsworth and Byron. Elspeth King, has long campaigned to bring Blind Harry's work back into print in an accessible form, and argues for its significance amd relevance today.

About the Author
Blind Harry is thought to have lived from 1440 to 1493. Little is known about him. His one major achievement was to gather and record in writing stories about Wallace. He sang or recited these stories in verse form, and was well received at the Renaissance Court o f James IV.

William Hamilton of Gilbertfield was a poet and soldier. All but forgotten now, it was he who brought Wallace back tot he attention with his hugely popular ‘translation’ of Blind Harry’s original poem.

Elspeth King is the Director of the Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum, which has a large collection of Wallace memorabilia and hosted the exhibition ‘Scotland’s Liberator- The Life and Legacy of William Wallace- throughout 1997 marking the 700 anniversary of the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

Owain Kirby, a recent graduate of the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, is a freelance illustrator and artist who prefers to work in linocut, loves Scottish history and lives in Stirling.

In it Harvey evocativelyintroduces a kabbalist named Ezekiel, who teaches Harvey about thepossibilities and power of the mystic tradition, generally andparticularly. Interested readers will be as exhilarated as Harvey isby Ezekiel's provocative statements. Next, the solid preface explainsthe Zohar 's origins, which aren't lost in the mists of time asmany believe, and basic concepts. The text proper is the Zoharwith commentary by translator Matt that explains references to theBible and Midrash and draws on the writings of Jewish philosophers forfurther illumination. A lead up and introduction to the 9 expanded volumes the author did later in his translation and longer annotation of the Zohar Pritzker edition. This is a great choice to start with so you can see if you're interested enough in the topic to seek out more volumes on the topic.

This work, a careful update of Matt's earlier edition of Zohar excerpts, provides an accurate and thoughtful translation of many of the most important sections of the Zohar, a primary text in the mystical tradition of the kabbalah. The Zohar itself is voluminous, and it has never been fully translated into English. This book, though, is short and just covers a few essential areas of the Zohar. While basic, it is not watered-down. It's a great place to start if you've recently heard about the Zohar and are wondering about it. There are a lot of unreliable and "fluffy" treatments filling the shelves these days -- this is the authentic article, prepared by one of the most highly regarded scholars in the field.If you like this book, you might also be interested in the same translator's new, complete translation of the entire Zohar. It's being published volume-by-volume by Stanford University Press. But if you just want the highlights, if you just want to see what this text is about, then this Skylight edition is the way to go.

This a very easy to read translation with plenty of clear useful commentary. I actually enjoyed reading it as no other I have seen.I have the Kindle edition which was initially difficult to read as it does not distinguish the text from the commentary when one flows into the other. It would be better if one of them were shaded.
